6 Easy Ways to Increase Pageviews....

Welcome to my Blogging Basics Series.  I first began this series with a post about What I Learned My First 6 Months of Blogging, and shared 5 Simple Steps to Starting a Blog.  Well, now that we’ve started our blogs, how do we get traffic and pageviews?

Every bloggers dream is to have a dedicated following of enthusiastic readers, who visit the blog frequently, and today I’ll share with you how I increased my blog traffic from 200 pageviews to over 3000 pageviews per month.  I used these 6 easy steps to grow my blog in just 2 months!  I’m so excited to share these strategies with you!

6 Easy Ways to Increase Blog Pageviews....

#1- Get Social

In January I felt like I’d hit rock bottom in blogging world.

After a whirlwind of Christmas posts in December and a Giveaway, my views on the blog plummeted in January.  It was depressing.  I felt uninspired.

So, I set out to discover new ways to draw in traffic and regain my creativity.

I read over and over that so many bloggers attribute their success to “getting social” on social media.

I began searching for Blogging Facebook Groups to join and Pinterest Group Boards to contribute to.

In February I joined 10 blogging related Facebook Groups, and applied to contribute to over 50+ (yes, you read that right!) Pinterest Group Boards.

On Facebook, I began interacting with fellow bloggers in various niches, participated in assignments, shared blog posts, commented on other blogs, and pinned up a storm.  It was excited to visit so many other websites and see their progress and content, and see the response from fellow bloggers that visited my site.

After joining a ton (and I mean a TON…) of Pinterest Group Boards, I slowly began sharing my pins and saw an increase in blog traffic.  Which leads me to my next step….

6 Easy Ways to Increase Pageviews....

#2- Pin All Day, Every Day

It’s no secret that I am a Pinterest fanatic.  Even before I had a blog, I would spend hours pinning.

I love the concept of Pinterest because I am a visual person.  And, because Pinterest is like google for bloggers, it can help you promote your blog in ways you couldn’t even imagine.

I started a free trial on Tailwind (a pin scheduling company), filled my queue with pin-able images from my posts, and watched the traffic roll in.  I was amazed!

I went from 200 pageviews on my blog in January, to almost 1600 in February.  I attribute that boost in traffic to Facebook Group assignments and my increase in pinning with Tailwind.

So, in March, I bit the bullet and began paying the low monthly subscription and joined the Tailwind family.  I scheduled 20-25 pins to go out each and every day amongst all of my various group boards.  And, drum roll please……I reached over 3000+ pageviews in March!  It’s amazing!

Now, according to Google Analytics, the majority of my blog traffic is coming from Pinterest.

It is beyond exciting to see my pins being re-pinned and shared throughout the world, and seeing the response to my posts on the blog from people I’ve never met.

Finally, I felt like I was “getting ahead” in the blogging world.  And, to make matters even better….I didn’t kill myself to write a million posts that month either.  In February I wrote 10 posts, and in March I wrote 8!

I spent time writing and creating images that would (fingers-crossed) be re-pinned on Pinterest and gain traffic to posts already written, which leads me into my next step to increase pageviews….

6 Easy Ways To Increase Blog Pageviews...

#3- Post 2-3 Times Per Week & Then Promote, Promote, PROMOTE!!!

When it comes to blogging, what I’ve learned is less is more….think Quality vs. Quantity.

I’ve been known to spend hours upon hours writing, editing, & photographing for posts.  Then, posting something new every day of the week, to only get minimal pageviews and blog visits.

Compare that to the weeks when I spend my time creating 2-3 really good, filled to the brim, high quality blog posts, and then spend the time I would have used writing more posts, to instead promote what’s already on my site.  Those weeks I get more engagement on the blog, and therefore more pageviews. I’ve still worked hard, but I’ve worked hard on a couple of posts versus several, and spent precious hours connecting with other bloggers and readers.  It’s a win-win if you ask me.

So, try to focus on the quality of your posts, versus the quantity.  Spend your time writing long (>1200) keyword rich posts, that will eventually do really well on search engines like google.  Spend your time creating the perfect Pinterest-worthy images and infographics for your readers to share on Pinterest.  Make a printable or a mini-ebook to include with your post to entice new readers to join your newsletter list.  The possibilities are endless.

Sure, every blogger wants to have a lot of posts for readers to binge on when they visit their site.  But, the quality of those posts are extremely important, as well.

A “good quality post” in my opinion helps the reader solve a problem, teaches them something new, or encourages them in some way. These awesome posts contain links to products and/or other blog posts relating to the topic to encourage the reader to bounce around your site and affiliate sites.  These are the posts that keep readers coming back for more.

I set a goal for myself for 2017 to write 80 Pin-Worthy Posts.  I’ll let you know how that changes my traffic in a future post.

And, don’t forget….while you may have some more “free” time from writing because you’re only posting 2-3 times per week, spend that time promoting your posts on social media.  That’s what those Facebook groups are for.

Several of my favorite Facebook Groups do assignments throughout the week.  Things like…share an Instagram post & like 5 others…or, share a blog post & comment on 5 others.  These assignments encourage me to post my content, and then visit and connect with other bloggers.  I get to choose which bloggers I interact with, as these groups are filled with thousands of other bloggers in every niche imaginable.  I always complete these assignments having found a new favorite blog & made a new blogging friend.

So, promotion and connection is as important as creating quality content for your blog.  Which leads me to…

#4- Reach Out

Every week as I interact with other bloggers via Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram, inevitably I come across a blog/blogger that “speaks to me”.  You know that feeling, (I hope you’re feeling that right now!)…when you come across a blog that gains your full attention, and peaks your interest.  I love discovering wonderful, creative people in the blogging world, don’t you?

I love finding new blogs filled with information that I didn’t know that I needed.  I love getting freebies in my email inbox, and signing up for giveaways.  I love reading other’s stories of triumph or failure, and thus connecting across the screen in ways I never though possible.

Do you have a list of favorite bloggers?

Do you have a list of “dream” bloggers you’d love to connect with and/or maybe even work with?

You never know how beneficial it may be to make a simple connection with other bloggers.  They could share your post, ask you to guest post on their blog, or invite you to join a series.  Plus, more experienced bloggers are a wealth of information, as well.

6 Easy Ways to Increase Pageviews....

#5- Never Stop Learning

Most, importantly, in order to continue to see growth in pageviews every month on your blog, you must NEVER stop learning.

I can’t tell you how many times I peruse Pinterest, looking for some more fabulous pins, and come across valuable blogging information from fellow bloggers.  Next thing I know, I have several windows open in Safari filled to the brim with more projects, post ideas, social media strategies, and so on.

Sometimes it can even be a bit overwhelming how much there is to learn when it comes to blogging.

I read Abby Lawson’s Building A Framework  when my blog was just a couple of months old.  It has become a valuable resource for me, that I reference often.  Abby’s thought of everything.  She walks you through how to set up a website, and then how to grow and monetize your blog.

She even includes video tutorials in Building A Framework which are amazing.  They were especially helpful when I was first setting up my blog. And, now she’s added even more video tutorials about how to manage your blog accounting, to how to make a printable.  I’m a visual person, so being able to watch a quick video on how to do certain things rather than read pages of tutorials, is very helpful.

If you purchase her ebook, you are also invited to join her own private Facebook Group filled with fellow Framework bloggers.  We share blogging advice and inspiration regularly.  Plus, we have Abby & her hubby…both blogging masterminds…at our fingertips, once again, making this resource invaluable for any blogger.

Besides, Building a Framework, I have several other ebooks and ecourses on my wishlist to purchase one day.  I want to learn everything there is to know about blogging.

There’s a bit of a learning curve when you’re just starting out, so take it slow, try not to get frustrated and overwhelmed, and set attainable goals….

6 Easy Ways to Increase Pageviews...

#6- Focus On One Goal At A Time

This year when I decided to regain traction and tackle my blogging goals head on, I purchased a special planner just for my blog.  I like having everything in one place, and I like writing things down the old-fashioned way…with a pen and paper.

I started making small but attainable goals to tackle each month along with one or two skills to master or learn.

I try to focus on one goal at a time.  I learn everything I can about how to attain that goal, and then go after it.

There are days when I sit back and look at my blog and am amazed at how much it’s grown in such a short period of time.  And, then there are other days when I’m pretty hard on myself and feel like I should already have it all figured out…be farther along…be a blogging master.

But, building a blog takes time.  There’s a lot to learn and absorb.

When you feel those frustrating moments begin, try to remember why you started your blog to begin with.  What was the story you had to tell.  What was it you wanted to share with the world?

Stop and take a breath.  Remember your purpose in this journey.  Set a goal or two.  And, then go back to the drawing board.

A larger goal is often attained through conquering smaller goals along the way.

I can’t wait to hear how these steps have helped you along on your blogging adventure.  Please share your blog with us in the comments below, and share your blogging secrets.  I love to make new blogging friends.

I hope you find this post helpful.  Please come back soon for more blogging tips!

Tailwind is amazing, Harmony. They evaluate your Pinterest site and know exactly when you should pin based on who’s pinning your pins. I can’t even believe the jump in page views I got just from scheduling on Tailwind. Thanks for stopping by again today.

These are great tips but I’m wondering how to implement them….I am only on two blogging groups on FB and already spend tons of time promoting (way more than actually writing) and get very little return. I can’t spend hours upon hours posting in fb groups and pinning (I’m having trouble finding time to pin in the groups I’m in)….I’m starting to wonder if people even read blogs anymore. How much time do you spend per day/week promoting your blog?

    April 5, 2017 at 1:35 pm
  • Reply Stephanie Wilson

Hi, Sabrina!! I’m so glad you stopped by today. Here’s some advice I can offer you…
First, the best Facebook group that I’ve found that offers various assignments every day that don’t take forever to finish is called “Growing Social Media”. You may want to look into that group. There are thousands of members, and tons of ways to participate. I think you may find it helpful.
Second, you may want to try using Tailwind for a month or so and see if your traffic increases. Tailwind offers a free trial that allows you to pin a certain number of pins before they want you to sign up. They pin for you, and at the best times for your Pinterest account. If you are following good Search Engine Optimization and creating beautiful vertical pins, you should see a boost in your traffic from using Tailwind.
Third, I feel like people stumble upon blogs these days, usually from Pinterest. That’s how I’ve discovered blogs that I want to revisit. So, I guess it’s more important than ever for us, as bloggers, to captivate those readers that come from seeing something they’re interested in on social media, and making them a fan and loyal reader. Building a Framework really helped me set everything up, too. It’s been so invaluable to me along this process.
Lastly, I usually spend maybe an hour-2 hours per day promoting. I break it up into small time frames, though, so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming.
I hope these suggestions help. Thanks for stopping by, and let me know if you have any more questions! 🙂

Thanks for responding! I actually do use tailwind and love it! I don’t have 2 hours a day to work on my blog, let alone promote it (maybe some day but not right now). I think, based on your tips, I’m going to focus almost all of my energy on pinterest for a while and see what happens. I may look up that FB group but I may not use it much for a while until I work out a better schedule.

I’ve got to get started with tailwind soon! I have just started blogging (still in my first month!) so I’m trying to figure out the best time to start utilizing a pinterest auto-pinner. Do you have any suggestions?

    April 17, 2017 at 11:57 am
    • Reply Stephanie Wilson

At the beginning, it took me a while to even figure out how to make Pinterest-worthy photos. I finally have gotten a little bit better acclimated with pic monkey and canva. I did the free trial with Tailwind and saw a huge increase in traffic, so that’s when I decided to sign up and set up a pin schedule of at least 25 pins per day. And, now I’ve seen even more increase. Most of my traffic is now coming from Pinterest. And, that’s so exciting! I set up my Tailwind at the beginning of the month and let it do it’s thing. It doesn’t take much time at all. So, after you’ve been writing for a few months and have a few Pinterest images, try Tailwind and see what you think. Hope this helps. 🙂
