My journey into the blogging world reached another high this week. I was nominated for the Liebster Award!
The Liebster Award is a way for bloggers to recognize some of their favorite up and coming bloggers by asking them questions and learning their likes and dislikes. It helps connect the blogging community, and I am beyond honored to be nominated for this award.
I was nominated by Michelle Herring of Sage Creek Meadow. We met in a Facebook Group for bloggers, and have quickly become blogging friends. I am still amazed at how quickly blogging can connect you to new besties all over the world. And, I couldn’t be more honored to accept this nomination from Michelle. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
I am going to carry on this tradition, and nominate 5 of my favorite new bloggers near the end of this post. These are the rules for Liebster Award Nominees…
1. On your blog, thank the blogger who nominated you for this award.
2. Link back to the blogger that awarded you.
3. Upload the award to your blog. This can be done by writing a post about the award, and uploading the award image in your sidebar.
4. Answer the questions you have been asked by your nominator in a blog post so we can get to know you better.
5. Nominate 5 blogs with less than 200 followers, that you believe deserve to receive this award.
6. Notify the owners of those 5 blogs that you’ve nominated them so they can accept their award. Bloggers can be nominated more than once, giving their readers more chances to learn more about them.
My Questions From Michelle
1. How Did You Choose The Name For Your Blog?
It took me forever and a day to come up with a name for my blog.
I first chose “Lattes” because I became addicted to coffee while I was in nursing school. There was a time in my life when I couldn’t stand the taste of coffee, believe it or not. But, now, I’m pretty sure it’s my blood type.
I wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember , and I’m extremely proud that I get to work with new moms and babies. It quite literally is my dream job.
“Lilacs” was chosen to commemorate the day I married my best friend on a small quaint island off the coast of Lake Huron in Northern Michigan. Mackinac Island is a place where bicycles & horse carriages fill the streets, and the smell of fudge on Main Street welcomes you off the ferries. It’s a place where 100 year old lilacs abound, and where guests enjoy a timeless retreat.
Here’s a quick video explaining the magic and nostalgia of this place…
Mackinac Island in my favorite place in the world, and I feel so lucky to have been able to be married there. I had to include this beautiful place in the title of my blog.
And, last but certainly not least, “Lullabies” was added to my blog title.
After my long battle with infertility that resulted in a miscarriage, I wanted to share my story. I knew that during that time I felt very alone. I wanted to offer a message of hope and understanding to other moms going through the struggle of infertility and loss. So, the blog was born (pun intended!).
I wanted this blog to be a place for moms of all kinds to feel inspired and encouraged. I like to say,
“Babies are my Business, Moms are my Ministry”.
I work with moms and babies at the hospital, and yet often times I suffer in silence as I long for my own little one. I strongly desired to minister to mommies at heart, mommies who are mourning their angels, and mommies who are right smack dab in the middle of mommyhood.
So, “Lullabies” was the perfect ending to my blog name.
2. If You Could Sit Down & Talk To Any Historical Figure, Who Would It Be And What Would You Talk To Them About?
I think if I could pick one historical figure to talk to it would be Hannah from the Bible.
One night, when I was feeling defeated, I sat in our bedroom on the floor and sobbed and cried. I prayed for a baby. I prayed for God to answer this prayer, and give me clarity.
I reached for my Bible, which sadly hadn’t been opened in months, and opened it up to I Samuel. I’d heard the story of Hannah, and how she prayed for a baby. I’d heard the story probably about a million times, but this time was different.
As I read her story again that day, these words in the passage stood out to me,
“Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted?”
These words were asked of Hannah by her husband, and I realized a few things.
First, of all, I realized that my behavior wasn’t as abnormal as it felt at the time. Here was a woman living during “Bible Times” that also wept. She was also depressed. Her husband was also at a loss for knowing how to handle his wife’s emptiness.
And, then I read these words…
“This went on year after year!”
It hit me in that very moment that Hannah was a clear picture of hope for us “mommies in waiting” in the Bible. The words of God in a story that very honestly showed a woman going through the same feelings, emotions, and struggles that we go through every day.
I would love to sit down with Hannah, as two mama’s who waited for a long time for our babies, and pick her brain about that time in her life. I think there’s so much I could learn from her. And, I figure that she’d tell me like I will tell you, that God has a big plan for our lives and that we’ll become mommies at the perfect time and in the most beautiful way.
3. What Foreign Country Would You Love To Visit?
I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland. I don’t know if it’s because I was born on St. Patrick’s Day, or the fact that I married an Irishman, that makes me so fascinated by the Emerald Isle. I’m hoping to visit Ireland very soon! It would be a dream come true!
4. What Is Your Favorite Thing To Cook?
I’d have to say my favorite thing to cook (ahem….bake) would be brownies. They are my favorite chocolatey snack, and I love them when they are fresh and warm from the oven. Pair them with a tall glass of milk or a cappuccino, and I’m in Heaven!
5. What Is Your Dream Vacation Like?
I like adventure. I feel like Belle in Beauty and the Beast when I say that,
“I want adventure in the great wide, somewhere! I want it more than I can tell.”
Our most recent mega vacation included a lot of adventure. We went on a Moose Tour in New Hampshire; climbed the steps in the roaring rapids of Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls; hiked Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park; Visited with Witch House in Salem; Got Up Close & Personal with a Beluga Whale; & went to Falconry School in Hershey Pennsylvania.
I like discovering new things and trying new foods. So, I’d say my dream vacation includes a lot of adventure, beautiful places, amazing food, & precious memories made with my family.
