The Sunshine Award is given to bloggers who are,

inspiring, creative and bring sunshine into the lives of their readers and other fellow bloggers.

I was nominated for this blogging award by Erin at the Wanderstead Wife, and I am so honored.  I can’t wait to answer her questions, and nominate 5 of my favorite bloggers for this award too.

Thanks again, Erin for this wonderful nomination.  I am thrilled beyond belief.  Here’s the answers to my Sunshine Award questions that will help you get to know me a little bit better, and a little bit more information about this awesome award…

What is the Sunshine Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award given to bloggers who are inspiring, creative and bring sunshine into the lives of their readers and other fellow bloggers.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog

2. Answer questions the nominating blogger has created for you

3. List other bloggers that you nominate for the Sunshine Blogger Award

4. Create 11 questions for the bloggers that you have nominated

5. Let your nominees know that they have been nominated

My Questions And Answers:

1. What fictional place would you most like to visit and why?

I had to really rack my brain to figure out an answer to this question.  And, I think the fictional place I’d most like to visit would be Arendelle from the movie Frozen.  I think that I would have a lot in common with Elsa and Anna.  We could ice skate and build snowmen, wear fancy boots, and go for a hike up to Elsa’s ice castle.

Maybe it’s because my nieces watched Frozen constantly, or the fact that we were just at Disney on Ice, but I think Arendelle would be on my Fictional Travel Bucket List, for sure! 🙂

2. What is the meaning of the name of your blog?

I chose this name for my blog because I love coffee, particularly Starbucks; my favorite place on earth is Mackinac Island that is known for their lilac festivals in early June; & I’m a hopeful mommy and mother-baby nurse.  I wanted a title for my blog that highlighted the 3 important roles I play in my life…nurse, wife, & hopeful mommy.

So, latte was chosen to commemorate my nursing school year, since that was when I become addicted to coffee.  Lilacs was chosen  because my hubby and I had a destination wedding on Mackinac Island.  And, I chose lullabies to commemorate my long journey through infertility and miscarriage.

3. What song do you have COMPLETELY memorized?

Hmmm…I’d have to say, old hymns.  I grew up going to church, and we sang from hymnals with my piano teacher accompanying. Even till this day, if I hear the tune of an old hymn that we used to sing, the words instantly come back to me.  Sometimes I find myself humming those precious “old” songs.  They bring comfort to me.

4. Who’s your go-to band when you can’t decide who to listen to?

I’ll admit it.  I’m a “Mumfie”.  My hubby would listen to Mumford & Sons all the time around our house, and I never thought much of it.  But, when they came to Michigan for their first concert, bet your bottom dollar, we were right there as close to the stage as we could afford.

I thought I was going to the concert for my husband…you know, finally having a date night picked by him.  But, throughout the concert, I fell in love with their musicality.  I loved the lyrics in their songs, and stood like a deer in the headlights just staring in awe.  Oiy!

I’m sure my neighbors can attest to this, that I played their music {rather loudly} for weeks on end after that concert.  I was hooked.  I was officially a Mumfie.  Some of their songs make me cry, some make me want to get up and do a “banjo-roll”.  It’s just feel good music, and I’m so glad my husband and I enjoy listening to them together now.

Here’s a YouTube video from that night at the concert….Mumford & Sons playing my favorite song!

5. What could you give a 40 minute presentation on with no preparation?

I could probably give a 40 minute presentation to new moms about what to expect while they’re in the hospitals with their newborns.  I do it quite often at the hospital when I give tours of our post-partum unit.

I’m slowly, but surely, writing posts to help new mamas with their brand new babies in my New Mommy Series.

6. What was your favorite childhood meal?  What is your favorite meal now?

I remember as a kid absolutely loving soft tacos from Taco Bell.  In fact, it’s how my parents got me to stop chewing on my finger nails.  They bribed me with soft tacos!  Ha!

Now, my tastebuds have refined a little bit.  My husband and I are bonefide “foodies”.  We love trying all the new places in town.  Here are some of our favorites.

Right now, I’m loving this new restaurant called Black Rock that allows you to cook your own steak on a hot lava rock right at your table.  The steak is to die for!  Yum!

7. What do you do for a living?

As I mentioned earlier, I am a registered nurse.  I always wanted to be nurse growing up.  I had an aunt who was a nurse, and she always had fabulous entertaining stories.

So, flash forward many year later, I left my half complete Early Childhood Education degree to pursue Nursing.

When I finished nursing school, I started my career at Children’s Hospital of Michigan working on the Burn Unit.  I thought I would love working as a pediatric nurse, but I found it to be very difficult.

Eventually, I landed my dream job working my moms and babies.  Thankfully, I don’t have to help with the laboring part of the process…it’s not my cup of tea.  I work with the new families after delivery as moms heals and as both parents begin to figure out their new baby.  I love it.

8. Where do you usually go when you have time off?

For years after our destination wedding, we would visit Mackinac Island at least once if not twice a year.  It is my favorite place on earth.

No cars are allowed on the island, so the silence is remarkable.  All that you hear are the clippity-clop of horses, bicycle bells, & the waves lapping on the shore.

It was on this island that the movie, Somewhere In Time was filmed.  We enjoy going to bike rides, exploring the butterfly house, watching the sunset, and roasting s’mores on the front lawn of the Lake House.

We were married at a Lakeside Gazebo at Mission Point Resort, which is where we stay when we visit the island.  Their spacious lawn is perfect for flying kites, lounging in Adirondack chairs, & star-gazing at night.

It’s simply the most romantic place on earth.

9. What is special about the place you grew up?

I grew up in the house that my mom grew up in.  And, now my niece Brianna is growing up there too.  4 generations have grown up in that house that my grandparents built many years ago.  It’s a special place.

10. What can you not get right no matter how many times you try?

I’m not sure if this is a good answer to this questions, but I am an avid procrastinator.  No matter how many times I try to organize my life, be on time, work on projects ahead…I always seem to get distracted and rush at the end to get where I need to be or to finish a project.

Trying to maintain some organization with my Life Planners has helped, but I often times get lost in my goals and to-do lists and then nothing gets done.  That’s something that I’m still working on till this day.

11. What irrational fear do you have?

Spiders.  Spiders.  Definitely Spiders!  Eeek!
