As I was announcing my Very Rosy Christmas Giveaway LIVE on Facebook a few nights ago, I couldn’t help but share with you all some of the details of this amazing Date Night! This Christmas Date Night in Rochester, Michigan had everything!
There were over a million Christmas light; there was Santa; there was an old fashioned Kris Kringle Market in the street; there was amazing food including a bread Pudding made from Donuts from our favorite local cider mill; there was delicious coffee; there were horses with glittered hooves pulling white carriages; and there was a completely edible life sized train made out of gingerbread!
Yep, you read that right! It was an epic Christmas Date Night! And, here’s all the details… Enjoy!
Our Christmas Date Night began with the Kris Kringle Market in Downtown Rochester. The market is offered one weekend during the Christmas season, and it resembles the Christmas markets seen in Europe.
There were artisans, crafters, food tents, and of course Kris Kringle himself.
I went completely googley- eyed over these adorable gingerbread house playhouses, and I wasn’t alone. There were tons of kiddos having a blast playing in them.
This family oriented event will become a yearly tradition, I’m sure.
We then went to dinner at Penny Black, which was just steps away from the Kris Kringle Market.
Penny Black was decked out for Christmas as well. It’s a restaurant that serves southern food, in an old refurbished post office.
It was here that we experienced a life changing dessert. The Yates Donut Bread Pudding that they make homemade using cider donuts from a local cider mill, bake it into a delectable Bread Pudding, and then smother with caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was awesome!
We walked the downtown area in Rochester and enjoyed the millions of lights strung on the buildings in such a precise manner. The colors were spectacular. I feel like such a kid every year when we drive down Main Street. It’s another yearly tradition. It still takes my breath away!
A quick stop in the Dessert Oasis and Coffee Roasters for a mocha, helped warm me up as we continued our walk. I love how groovy it is in the Dessert Oasis. There’s usually Live musicians performing. It’s the type of place where they pour a work of art over the top of your coffee, and they’re coffee bar is set up on an old organ. I could literally hang out in there all day, munch on Fondue and down a bunch of coffee, and be perfectly happy with life.
And, every year we look forward to seeing the window displays, especially the edible display at the Home Bakery. This year it was The Grinch. In years past there was an edible Elsa & Olaf from Frozen, and another year the window was filled with edible Minions! It’s always incredible to see what they’ve come up with for their window display.
To end our Christmas Date Night in Rochester, we drive to The Royal Park Hotel to check out their enormous gingerbread creation for this year! And, it did not disappoint!
It was a literal train, made out of 200 lbs of gingerbread and 50 lbs of candy! The Royal Park Express took over 500 hours to complete, and would definitely knock the socks off of any train lover. We were amazed!
Something new that the Royal Park Hotel is offering this year, are horse drawn carriage rides through the downtown area. It would be dreamy to be able to gaze at all the Christmas lights from such a beautiful carriage. And, when I saw that the horse had gold glittered hooves and Christmas lights strewn around his neck, I about lost my mind! It was the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen. I may have shrieked quite a bit, just sayin’.
The carriages are only available on select weekends, and require a reservation. It costs $35 per person for a 25 minute ride! We might just have to plan to go on a carriage ride later this season! It looked like something out of a fairytale!
Christmas Date Nights are our favorite! Hope you’re finding the time to get out there and spend some time with your honey this Christmas season. Stay tuned for more Date Night ideas!
