Just the other night, my sweet hubby surprised with an amazing Date Night. He whisked me off to the Toledo Zoo for the Luminous Nights, a Chinese Lantern extraordinaire. Toledo Zoo is only the second zoo in the entire world to offer this beautiful spectacle of color and glowing light, and I am so thankful we got to see it.
If you live in the area, a trip to The Toledo Zoo for Luminous Nights is definitely worth the drive. I feel so #blessed to live close enough to the Toledo Zoo. It’s an amazing place to visit for the entire family.
I can’t wait to share this awesome Date Night with you. Let’s go…
One of my goals this month, was to discover something new. On this particular Date Night, we not only got the see these rare Chinese Lanterns, but we also got to watch 2 rescued baby cougars get their evening bottle.
The hubster definitely earned extra hubby points for planning this Date Night.
We were first greeted by these sweet pandas. They’re the only pandas I’ve ever seen in a zoo!
As we entered the zoo, we saw several animal displays made out of the beautiful glowing lanterns. I can’t even imagine the amount of time is takes to make these beauties. I think I said “wow” around every turn. Toledo Zoo had lanterns tucked into every nook and cranny. It was absolutely gorgeous.
I think I probably took a million photos. I even got the dreaded “you’re out of iPhone space” message. Here’s a few of my favorite displays…
I think Adam’s favorite lanterns were definitely these dinosaurs. They were unbelievable….
I had too many favorite displays to count. Here are some of my absolute favorites. I especially loved all of the bright colors and the relaxing Chinese music they had playing throughout the zoo.
Whew….I know I took a lot of pictures. But, I couldn’t help myself. The zoo staff led a group of us “behind the scenes” to see the newest cougar cubs get their evening bottle. It was about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. They are sisters and were rescued by The Toledo Zoo. The bounced along the window sill, and played with anything they could get their little paws on. It’s definitely worth your time to go the cougar feeding. Check The Toledo Zoo’s website for feeding times.
After the cougar feeding, we bought some cinnamon roasted almonds and went on our way. It was the most beautiful fall night. We had perfect weather, and the scent of cinnamon and sugar in the air go to us. Those almonds were the bomdiggity!
We stopped into The Toledo Zoo’s new aquarium, which is included in the price of admission. I love watching the sharks and the sea turtle.
The rest of the evening was super romantical. It felt like we were the only ones left at the zoo exploring the lanterns displays in the back of the zoo. And, these displays I think were the most beautiful. Here’s a peek…
I loved the cherry blossoms trees in this display. I wanted to run and frolic in this field of gold and pink, but thought that might be frowned upon.
But, I think we both could agree that our absolute favorite display, was this fall scene. Between the moose, the deer, and the illuminated fallen leaves, we were hooked. It was so stunning. What a beautiful finale to Luminous Nights, the best date night under the stars.
Luminous Nights at The Toledo Zoo runs until October 29th, 2017. It costs $17 for adults, and $14 for kids. If you have a Toledo Zoo Membership you get a discount. This is definitely a must-see fall family activity. Or, make it a date night like we did.
Stay tuned for more fall family fun! See you again soon!
