Life Lately: The Escape Room, Crack Fries, & Michigan’s State Fair

Our Summer has been filled with many new adventures that I’ll share with you today.  We loved our quadruple date night out with friends at The Escape Room.  Did we make it out alive?  Well, you’re just going to have to continue reading to find out…or check my Instagram account!  Ha!

We also went to the Michigan State Fair this year at its new location in Novi, and tried a couple of new restaurants.

So, without further adieu, let’s dive right in to what our life’s been like lately…

Our first attempt at The Escape Room {yes, you read that right, our first} ended abruptly when the power went out in our room.  We thought it was a special trick since we had just cracked open a clue.

If you’ve never heard of The Escape Room before, it’s a wonderful date night or group activity.  We in essence ‘locked’ into a room, and instructed on how to find clues to get out that are hidden throughout the room.

Since the lights went out on our first try, we recommenced a month later and made it out with just a few minutes to spare.  It was so much fun.  I would highly recommend it.

I love these ladies.  We worked together nearly every shift at the hospital back in the day.  And, so much has happened since then. Some have gotten married, some have had babies. These were the friends I texted first when we found out we were pregnant, and the first I texted when I had a miscarriage.  They’ve been such an amazing support.  This quadruple date night with our guys was so much fun!

After our first attempt at escaping ended earlier than expected, we all met for dinner at Hopcat.  If you’ve never been, you must go and order a burger and crack fries.  They are simply amazing.  And, the new Hopcat in Royal Oak is gorgeous.  The rooftop patio was way more beautiful than I expected.  I love finding these hidden gems so close to home.

One of our favorite Labor Day Weekend traditions was going to the Michigan State Fair.  This year was our very first time visiting the State Fair at its new location in Novi.  We loved watching the animals displays, including a demonstration on sheep shearing. We looked at all the crafts and farming displays…we’re nerdy like that.  And, then headed outside to the fair to watch other people scream on death-defying rides and to eat corn dogs.

After the State Fair, we headed over to Primanti Bros. for some “real” food.  We chowed down on buffalo wings and their famous French fry filled sandwiches.  Whew.  I’m stuffed just thinking about it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and perfect end to your summer.  I’ll share more of our shenanigans another day.  I’ll see you again soon!  Thanks for stopping by today.

What are some of your favorite summer memories from this year?
