Can you believe how fast the summer is flying by? I can hardly believe that September is around the corner. This has been a different summer for us. Adam’s uncle passed away in June, and it kind of rocked the whole family. This summer we’ve tried to continue doing activities that we know and love, because we know Uncle Doug would want us too. Even though most days I’m sure we’d rather just lay around the house and be sad.
Here’s some of our happenings over the last few weeks. I hope you all are enjoying your summer as much as possible too!
My family & I love doing The Color Run every summer. It’s become one of my favorite yearly traditions, and this years Dream Tour was nothing short of amazing. The weather was perfect. The sherbet colors of yellow, purple, blue, and coral pink were new and different. And, the party at the finish line was extra fun.
The Color Run is the best family 5K in my opinion. Here’s why we love it so much, and why I’m sure you will too!
I love going to the Dog Bowl and Balloons Over Bavarian Inn every Memorial Day weekend in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Frankenmuth is like Michigan’s own “little bravaria”. When you drive into town it feels as though you’ve just driven into the German hillside. There are cheese shops, famous fried chicken, the Bavarian Belle, shops, & lots of fun activities throughout the year.
Memorial Day Weekend up in Frankenmuth is like a big giant kick-off to summer for us, & I’d love to share it with you.
Just this past Memorial Day weekend, my hubby and I were heading up to Frankenmuth, Michigan’s Little Bravaria. We go up every year for their Annual Dog Bowl & Balloon Festival (which I’ll share with you in blog posts soon). I had noticed on Instagram that the Hello Kitty Cafe was going to be at a local mall that day, and lo and behold, it just so happened to be on our route up north. So, we packed our bags, got in the car, and began our adventure up north for the weekend.
The plan was to make a quick stop at the mall, buy some macaroons from the glorious hot pink van, & be on our way. But boy, our day turned out entirely different than our perfectly planned excursion…
My nieces loved watching the Disney movie, Tangled , when they were little, and if I was being completely honest, I loved watching it too! We’d make cupcakes and decorate pink and purple tiaras with jewels and stickers, & dance around our living room singing all the songs and reciting all the lines. Our favorite part of the movie was the floating lantern scene, when Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder are in the canoe singing. I thought that type of scene only existed in the movies, until I saw advertisements for The Lantern Fest on Facebook.
I knew that one day I’d have to go to The Lantern Fest to witness this spectacle in person, and so when I heard The Lantern Fest was coming to Michigan, I jumped at the chance to go. This past May, just a few weeks ago, we experienced one of the most beautiful and unexpected nights of our lives.
Every year, we do the March of Dimes March for Babies. My youngest niece, Brianna, was born 6 weeks early. She is a happy healthy NICU graduate, which we are extremely thankful for. However, every year we meet families who were not able to take their babies home.
It is an emotional day that allows us to pay tribute to that scary time in our lives & be thankful once again that Bri is a feisty, smart 4th grader….
Just a couple days ago we had the most Ultimate Lego Day of all time with our niece, Natalie. We first saw the new Lego Batman movie in the theater and then spent the afternoon at the new Legoland Discovery Center. And, if that wasn’t enough fun, we finished the day scarfing down burgers, fries, & milkshakes at Johnny Rockets.
I’m all about a good “themed” day with the kids…it makes me feel very Pinteresty! :-). This Ultimate Lego Day was super duper fun!
I’ll break down our time at the Legoland Discovery Center, so you know exactly what to expect if you decide to take the “littles” in your life. Enjoy…
This past weekend my sister and youngest niece, Bri, took me to Disney on Ice to celebrate my birthday! It was such a fun day. I hadn’t been to Disney On Ice in well over 20 years…can’t believe I’m old enough to even make such a statement. But, through tear filled eyes, I watched my niece gaze in amazement much like I did as a kid, as her favorite princesses and characters jumped and glided all over the ice. We finished our super fun day at a newer restaurant called, Mod Pizza, where we designed our own brick oven artisan pizzas and devoured them in minutes.
Not many weekends make you feel like a kid again, but this one sure did….
There’s a new restaurant in town called Sedona Taphouse. We noticed it while driving home one night, and decided to check it out. Not only do they have Cactus Lemonade, 200+ beers on tap, award-winning clam chowder, and salted caramel cheesecake. But, they also offer a “Steak Out For Charity” special every Monday night where you get black angus steak, for only $7 and all proceeds go to a local charity. A delicious dinner that’s helping to support a local need, that’s also affordable…what could be better than that?!
I am so excited to share with you today the Best of Lattes, Lilacs, and Lullabies in 2016! I’m so very thankful for the response that my little blog has gotten over this past year. I’m humbled really.
This past year has been something else, and this blog has given me a creative outlet in which to express myself and share the good, the bad, and the ugly of my crazy life. And, thankfully, you’ve embraced it! Thank you!
In June 2016, during my “blog-cation” (as I’ve termed it), I finally “bought” my own domain name, hap-hazardly put this site together (thank you, Pinterest), and pushed “publish” on my very first post. There’s been a lot of learning that has happened between then and now. And a lot of posts! 62 of them to be exact.
I’d love to share with you what was most popular this year, and walk you through my first few months of blogging. It’s been a wild wild, but a fun one! Let’s walk down memory lane, shall we?!
