The 6 Best Coffee Shops On Mackinac Island

I know one of the first questions I ask when arriving to Mackinac Island is “where is the best coffee?”. How about you? That’s my first questions anywhere we visit, so today I’ll share with you the 6 best coffee shops on Mackinac Island. Yep, you read that right. They have a whole whopping 6 adorably cute and tasty coffee shops on this history little island in Northern Michigan where the coffee, pastries, and fudgy treats abound!

I have my favorite spots which I’ll share with you, but I also have a Starbucks Secret Recipe that you should only order on Mackinac Island…The Somewhere In Time Latte. So stay tuned for that amazing recipe! Let’s get started on our coffee tour around Mackinac Island.

Boxwood Coffeeshop

This cute coffeeshop is located at Mission Point Resort on the east side of the island. It gave me major Fixer Upper vibes with its subway tile, dark hardwood floors, and gray countertop. The lattes and mochas were super duper yummy and warmed us up on the cooler spring days when we visited.

We loved the outdoor seating with a relaxing fountain and view of Lake Huron, as well. We enjoyed our coffee one day in the expansive lawn as well, and lounged in one of the many white Adirondack chairs and listened to the waves. It was seriously a Pure Michigan locale, and we’d highly recommend.

Straight UP Coffee

Straight UP coffee is brand new this year and located inside the Straights Lodge at Mission Point Resort where we stayed on our most recent vacation during Lilac Festival. They serve the same coffee and pastries at Boxwood Coffeeshop and saves guests the long walk across the property, which we greatly appreciated after days of hiking and bicycling.

This coffee shop is like Boxwood’s little sister and has the same Fixer Upper vibes. The staff at Mission Point voted on the name and decided on Strait UP for the Straits Lodge and Upper Penninsula. They also offer small trinkets, gifts, and souvenirs similar to those in Mission Points boutique and shops.

Starbucks

The Starbucks on Mackinac Island holds special meaning to us as well. We stopped at this location during our wedding day carriage ride and took wedding photos inside this Starbucks. It was our Mackinac Island wedding photographers first time doing this, and she said it was allowed because this Starbucks was “owned by a local”. Ha!

When visiting the Mackinac Island Starbucks ask for a Somewhere In Time Latte. Sometimes they know what it is, and sometimes they don’t. It’s a secret menu item that I always get before boarding the ferry back to the mainland. It is a latte with nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla…however many shots they’d add for whatever size you’re ordering.

The Lucky Bean

The Lucky Bean is located on Market Street almost directly behind Starbucks. It’s a little off the beaten path and surrounded by cute little shops, art galleries, and Bed ‘N Breakfasts. They serve local coffee, and from what we can tell, it’s pretty darn delicious. We passed by but were already well-caffeinated {if that’s even a thing?}, or else we would’ve stopped in for a cup ‘o joe. Here is a lovely review, though from a fellow “coffee snob” who visited the island just before we did,

Visiting in May can still bring a chill in the air. This cute little shop behind Starbucks one block is worth the wait if there is a line. Being so small, one can imagine a wait when it is high season on the island. I am a coffee snob and loved it. The toasted marshmallow latte hit the spot and we closed down the place and the girl running the register was kind and generous.

Alright, now I simply have to go back to try that toasted marshmallow latte! How yummy does that sound? Plus, their website design is spot on! I absolutely love it! I think the owner, Carolyn May, and I would get along just fine!

Good Day Cafe

Good Day Cafe is a cute little coffee shop located on Main Street close to Doud’s Market. They not only serve amazing coffee, but they also serve lunch items, baked goods, and Mommer’s Ice Cream. It’s the perfect place to stop and get a quick bite to eat while exploring and shopping on Main Street. This is one of those places, you definitetly don’t want to miss.

Carleton’s Tea Store

Carleton’s Tea Store, located inside the Grand Hotel, is the perfect place to pop in for some “sweets and things”. Carleton’s has lots of desserts like tortes, cookies, and cakes, and you can grab a coffee, tea, and small souvenirs here too. Plus, you’ll get the change to take in the sites and sounds of this iconic, historic hotel that is simply infamous with Mackinac Island. After all, it is called “America’s Summerplace”.

There ya go! I think my job is done now. Hopefully, you’ll be well caffeinated during your visit to Mackinac Island after reading this post. I can’t wait to visit all of these coffee shops on our next visit, and taste test local coffee and dessert creations.
