12 Ways To Add Cozy Hygge Elements To Your Home This Spring

Let’s talk today about ways to add some cozy hygge elements into your home this spring.  I’ll share with you some decor ideas, some yummy seasonal recipes, and links to all of my favorite springy products to make your home extra comfy this season.  The Danish tradition called, ‘hygge’, is a feeling of coziness and togetherness that comes form slowing down and enjoying the simple things. Are you ready to relish in springtime this year?  I’ll show you how. So, pull up a chair, grab a latte, and get ready to want “all the things”.  I hope you have a wonderfully cozy spring.

1. Light Weight, Colorful Throws

This spring, exchange your fluffy, comfy, warm blankets with lightweight throws.  Drape throws over your sofa and chairs to add comfortable places to relax after an evening walk or a trip to the park.  Select colors and patterns that brighten your space. Here are some of my favorites…

2. Textured Pillows

3. Bright, Springy Floral Arrangements

Don’t have a green thumb?  No worries.  Bringing the outdoors inside with bright floral arrangements doesn’t have to be daunting or scary.  Try faux flowers at first and work your way to master flower arranger if you’d like.

Here are 5 Reasons to Embrace Faux Flowers This Spring…

I thought faux flowers were out of style, but it turns out they are still “in”.  Thanks to everyone’s favorite designer, Joanna Gaines, adding fake flowers to your home decor has never been more easy and beautiful.  Check out these gorgeous options…

Green Petal Leaf Branch that would look stunning in this Blue & White Vase

Faux Hydrangea Arrangement from Pottery Barn…how real and gorgeous is that??

Feeling a little more adventurous?  How beautiful would this Live Succulent Wreath look on your front door or above your fireplace?

Personally, I love this Faux Hydrangea Wreath.  I had one similar to this one, and one spring robins layed a nest right smack dab in the middle of it on our front door.  I ended up throwing it away.  The wreath {and our front door} was covered in bird poop.  But, we got to listen to the chirping of young robins every day in our foyer.

Add even more pops of spring color, texture, and design with these Vintage Pressed Glass Bud Vases in warm and cool hues.

This blue, white, and yellow handpainted Portofino Vase is stunning with real or faux arrangements.

Whether you choose real flowers or faux, every hyggelig home needs beautiful vases like the ones I’ve shown above.  But, these Etched Glass Vases from the bridal designer, Monique Lhuillier, have to be the most intricate, delicate vases I’ve ever seen.

4. Scented Candles

Now that we’ve added some cozy lightweight throws, textured comfy pillows, gorgeous vintage vases, and pops of colorful flowers to our spring home, let’s talk about another necessary element of all hyggelig homes…candlelight.

If you like scented candles, then you will love these choices from Nordstrom…

Aerin Scented Jar Candles available in several spring scents.

Voluspa Casa Pacifica is a fresh scent, blending California driftwood, sea salt, and shore brush.

I’ve heard amazing reviews about the Nest Candles from Nordstrom.  This particular scent is White Camilia and here is its story: “Fresh camellia, wisteria, and Indonesian jasmine are a beautiful combination, though when intermingled with crisp notes of white tea and amber, the fragrance is simply breathtaking.”  There are many scents to choose from.  I know you’ll enjoy these candles.

Combine this Hygge Luxury Scented Candle with a cozy throw and my ebook all about Hygge, and you’d have a pretty splendid afternoon.  Ok, you may need to add some coffee and some chocolate to make it absolutely perfect.

And, I know you will go all googly-eyed over these Hyggelight Candles as much as I did.  I don’t know what I love more, the beautiful little jars {there’s even one named Natalie just like my niece and it’s in a rose gold votive jar} or that wildflower seed wrap around each candle that can be used to plant in the jar when the candle is gone. And, you can pick which scent you’d like to accompany your gorgeous little jar.  They offer scents like lavender, sandalwood + vanilla, ginger + lime, and rosemary just to name a few.  They are simply beautiful, simply cozy, and perfectly hygge.

If you don’t like scented candles or lighting flames in your home {yes, there have been an awful lot of fires in Denmark}, then you will love these amazing flameless candles.  They look so real you’ll be amazed, and they are remote controlled.  It can’t get much easier than that.

Here are some beautiful ways to display candles in your cozy spring home.

Lilly Pulitzer Capriz Lanterns

Booker Multi Centerpiece Hurricane

Eclectic Mercury Glass Votives

Bubble Cage Hurricanes

5. Iced Coffee Bar

Are you an iced coffee fan, or do you prefer your coffee piping hot?  Either way, we can all agree that this DIY Coffee Bar is what dreams are made.  Brent & Courtney from Gray House Studios set out to turn their breakfast nook into their own cozy coffee shop.  Check out this blog post for their inspiration and instructions on how to create your very own coffee bar.

If you are an iced coffee fan, you have to try the newest trend, cold brew coffee.  It is scrumptious. Check out this recipe for homemade cold brew coffee from Feathers In Our Nest.  She claims it’s the “perfect cold brew” which makes me think of Elf when he thinks he’s found the “world’s best cup of coffee”.  Cold Brew Coffee is a must try this spring, and it’s even better with some vanilla sweet cream.

Coffee is the most consumed beverage by hyggelig folks, so fellow coffee addicts embrace the bean.  We are onto something.

6. Cheerful Artwork & Photos

You may have heard that I recently celebrated my birthday with my girlfriends at a palette painting class at AR Workshop.  You can read more about our class and see our finished pieces in this post.

There is something very hygge about being with friends and creating something beautiful to enjoy in your home.  Hygge can happen in chic sawdust covered workshops as well as in our living rooms. So, if you happen to have an AR Workshop nearby, grab your besties and attend a class.  Here are some of my favorite spring-inspired pieces that you can make…

Rotate your photobooks that may be sitting out on your coffee table to give you new memories to relive, and change up the pictures in your frames.  Add other pieces of spring inspiration in gallery walls and frames like these pieces…

Eliza Gallery Frames

Beaded Silver-Plated Frames

Cane Silver Frames

Monique Lhuillier Marlowe Frames

Velvet Photo Album

& Artifact Uprising’s Volume Series Photo Books that make turning your phone photos into archival photo books as easy as pie.

7. Seasonal Decor

Easter Decor is so delicate and sweet.  I love the soft pastel colors, intricate textures, and decorated Easter Eggs in a big bowl on the kitchen table.  Here are some Easter Decor ideas you’ll love…

Lit Etched Mercury Eggs

Easter Egg Hunt Signs from Pottery Barn Kids

Peter Rabbit Cookie Jar

8. Cozy Lighting & A Firepit

Fireplaces are another cozy element of hygglig homes that we can still enjoy in early spring.  But, if you’re anything like us Michiganders, we are chomping at the bit to get outside as soon as the weather begins to turn.  How about adding a firepit or some hanging lights to your outdoor space?  It doesn’t take much to turn your porch, deck, or patio into a cozy little hangout spot. Try making Peeps S’mores this spring.  Just replace the regular marshmallows with colorful peeps.  We all have a million of those leftover every Easter, right?  {For more s’more recipes to enjoy around your firepit, click here!}

9. Colorful Patterned Bedding

Let’s give our bedrooms a makeover with some soothing paint colors and beautiful bedding.  Spring is a time to brighten up your bed linen with fun patterns and pops of color.  Here are some amazing ideas…

Ana Medallion Bedding in 3 Different Colors {shown in blush}

“The silky shimmer of this TENCEL bedding is perfectly matched by its soft color and dreamy paisley print. Breathable and sustainable, natural-fiber TENCEL is a great option every night of the year.”

10. New Board Games & Puzzles

Spring is also a great time to update your board games and puzzle collection for rainy days.  Gathering around the fireplace, playing a board game, and enjoying some delicious seasonal food sounds like the perfect spring hyggelig day, doesn’t it?  I love these Deluxe Collectors Edition Board Games from Pottery Barn that are pretty enough to sit on the coffee table as decor too.  I especially love the black iron Scrabble letters!

Monopoly Luxury Edition

11. Springy Comfort Food

Indulging in delicious seasonal food is so very hygge.  In fact, the Danes consume more sugar than almost any other country in the whole world.  Here are 3 fun, decadent springtime desserts that your family will thoroughly enjoy.

Strawberry Shortcake

Chick Cupcakes

Ina’s Lemon Cake

12. Springtime Adventures

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about some springtime adventures for you and your family.  Make a seasonal bucket list.  Search for fun activities in your area to help you celebrate the season.  We like to visit our local farm in the spring when all the baby animals are born.  We also take a trip to the zoo while the cherry trees are blooming.  Look for Easter Egg hunts, strawberry picking, or visit your local park.

Make the most of this spring by implementing some {or all} of these ideas to create a cozy, memorable season for you and your. family. What element of hygge are you going to try today?
