The Best Easter Movies for Families

These are in my opinion the best Easter movies for families. I’ve listed some shorter “film” for the younger audience (like Winnie the Pooh & Charlie Brown) as well as some with religious background that’s geared toward kids (like VeggieTales). Even though we celebrate the true reason for the season, we do love many of these cute bunny-themed movies for family movie night this time of year. Our favorites are Hop, Rise of the Guardians, & Zootopia. But, this year, we can’t wait to dive into some of the classics (like The First Easter Rabbit) and some new Easter movies like Peter Rabbit.

Which movie will you choose for your family?

Hop

“A jobless slacker finds himself beyond busy after he runs over the Easter Bunny and has to take over the rabbit’s duties so the holiday can continue.”

It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is a holiday staple in our home. Every Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas we gather on the couch to watch these classics, and your family will love this Easter Charlie Brown as well.

Rise of the Guardians

“When the evil spirit Pitch launches an assault on Earth, the Immortal Guardians team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and others battle a malicious spirit determined to destroy the innocent beliefs and dreams of children. A fun-filled magical story about the legendary guardians– Jack Frost (Chris Pine), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy- together for the first time! When the evil boogeyman Pitch (Jude Law) threatens to take over the world, it’s up to our beloved heroes to protect the hopes and dreams of all children. It’s a dazzling and heartwarming family film.”

VeggieTales: An Easter Carol

“What’s better than a chocolate bunny at Easter? Veggie? !? Yes, Veggie!! Bob, Larry and your favourite VeggieTales characters present Easter like you’ve never seen it before. Learn about God’s great love for us in “An Easter Carol” and how we can better serve others in “Twas the Night Before Easter.”

Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo

This sweet springtime movie with Pooh and his gang is now available to view on Disney +. Your youngest movie watchers will love this adorable little movie

Featuring all the characters you love best, five memorable songs and a heartwarming message about kindness, Winnie The Pooh: Springtime With Roo is a delightful tale the whole family will want to watch again and again!”

The First Easter Rabbit

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

“A bunny called Irontail turns evil after losing the chance to become the next Easter Bunny to Peter Cottontail. He and his co-conspirators concoct a plan to bring about a permanent winter and only Peter’s son and his friends can stop them.” Here Comes Peter Cottontail

The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town

“The Mailman decides to stop another deluge of letters by answering questions about the Easter Bunny: Sunny, a baby rabbit found and adopted by Kidville (a town of only kids–even a kid mailman). And when Sunny goes delivering eggs to the nearby town (which he has to dye to fool Gadzooks, the mean bear on the mountain), he discovers that there are no kids in the town, and that the rightful (kid) ruler is being suppressed by his aunt. But the young king likes Sunny’s dyed eggs and jelly beans. So Kidsville, with the help of an old train engine, makes a few plans (and a decoy chocolate rabbit) to distribute them.

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit and his three sisters — Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-Tail — enjoy spending their days in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden. When one of McGregor’s relatives suddenly moves in, he’s less than thrilled to discover a family of rabbits in his new home. A battle of wills soon breaks out as the new owner hatches scheme after scheme to get rid of Peter — a resourceful rabbit who proves to be a worthy and wily opponent.”

Zootopia

“From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes a comedy-adventure set in the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia. Determined to prove herself, Officer Judy Hopps, the first bunny on Zootopia’s police force, jumps at the chance to crack her first case – even if it means partnering with scam-artist fox Nick Wilde to solve the mystery. Bring home this hilarious adventure full of action, heart and tons of bonus extras that take you deeper into the world of Zootopia. It’s big fun for all shapes and species!” This movie is also available on Disney +.

The Dog Who Saved Easter

“Easter is approaching, and the Bannisters are going on a family cruise. But when their beloved dog, ZEUS, can’t go, Belinda makes the difficult decision to have him stay at Alice’s dog care facility where Zeus quickly meets new friends. When a competitor hires a criminal to sabotage Alice’s operation and force her out of business, it’s up to Zeus and his new friends to save the day!” You can watch it here on YouTube.

The Best Classic/Religious Easter Movies

And, of course, we can’t forget about the classics. Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments can often be seen playing at my in-laws house every day leading up to Easter Sunday. They are old classics that remind us so much of the true meaning of the season. I’ve also included some other classic movies, that the kids may not be able to sit through, like Easter Parade and Steel Magnolias.

Steel Magnolias

While Steel Magnolias isn’t really an Easter movie, per se, there are a ton of Easter themes throughout the movie. Like when Trudy’s colored eggs get smashed in her trunk, and when her hubby has to “hop” on the back of a motorcycle when she goes into labor. And, of course, that Pepto Bismol pink wedding just screams springtime, doesn’t it?

The Ten Commandments

“Moses, an Egyptian Prince, learns of his true heritage as a Hebrew and his divine mission as the deliverer of his people.”

Easter Parade

“Don Hewes and Nadine Hale are a dancing team, but she decides to start a career on her own. So he takes the next dancer he meets, Hannah Brown, as a new partner. After a while this new team is so successful, that Florenz Ziegfeld is interested in them, but due to the fact that Nadine Hale dances also in the Ziegfeld Follies Don says no. In spite of the fact that he is in love with Hannah, he keeps the relation to her strictly business. So Hannah is of the opinion that he is still in love with Nadine, and her suspicion grows when he dances with Nadine in a Night Club Floor Show.”

Risen

“Risen follows the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius, a powerful Roman Military Tribune, and his aide Lucius, are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Yahshua in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.”

Ben Hur

“Judah Ben-Hur lives as a rich Jewish prince and merchant in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 1st century. Together with the new governor his old friend Messala arrives as commanding officer of the Roman legions. At first they are happy to meet after a long time but their different politic views separate them. During the welcome parade a roof tile falls down from Judah’s house and injures the governor. Although Messala knows they are not guilty, he sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. But Judah swears to come back and take revenge.”

The Greatest Story Ever Told

“My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?” It is towards this climactic crossroads that the story of Jesus of Nazareth leads, and to which, at the final moment, it again looks back in triumphant retrospect. It is the anguishing crossroads where the eternal questions of faith and doubt become resolved.”

The Passion of the Christ

“Depicts the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.”
